Communities of the Pikes Peak Region
Colorado Springs
Set amid the landscape that inspired “America The Beautiful,” Colorado Springs, the state's 2nd largest city, is the gateway to Southern Colorado and the Pikes Peak Region. The bustling downtown is just 80 miles south of Denver's International Airport and 2 1/2 hours east of world class skiing. The area is classified as an "alpine desert" and has a moderate, dry climate with over 300 days of sunshine. With majestic Pikes Peak providing a spectacular back drop, the city of Colorado Springs is truly a photographer’s paradise. The area offers a long list of scenic, cultural and recreational opportunities including the U.S. Air Force Academy, Garden of the Gods Park, the U.S. Olympic Complex, historic Old Colorado City, international sporting events and cultural, art and balloon festivals. Colorado Springs is simply a wonderful place to call “home.”
Manitou Springs
Just 4 miles west of Colorado Springs and at the foot of Pikes Peak lies the magical town of Manitou Springs. "Manitou," a Native American word for "spirit," describes this beautiful mountain community. The nine mineral springs throughout town are fed by the snows of Pikes Peak. Long before white men traveled here, the Ute, Cheyenne and many other natives considered this area sacred. Manitou Springs is home to several world-class historic restaurants as well as many favorite neighborhood eateries and offers a wide selection of accommodations to visitors, from historic hotels and Victorian bed-and-breakfasts to cabins by Fountain Creek.
Monument/Tri-Lakes
The Tri-Lakes area is located 12 miles north of Colorado Springs and 35 miles south of Denver and boasts some of the most spectacular scenery in Colorado. The small towns of Monument, Palmer Lake, and Larkspur and the communities of Gleneagle, Woodmoor and Black Forest comprise the Tri-Lakes. Local sites include the U.S. Air Force Academy and the Pikes Peak National Forest. Hiking, biking, and horseback riding are popular activities as well as recreational opportunities offered by the “Tri-Lakes”: Monument Lake, Palmer Lake and Lake Woodmoor. Since it is an easy commute either north or south, the area attracts professionals with jobs in either Denver or Colorado Springs as well as the work-at home entrepreneur.
Fountain
The City of Fountain, known as America's Millennium City, is located at the base of Pikes Peak 10 miles south of Colorado Springs and 30 miles north of Pueblo along I-25. Fountain has all the amenities of urban living at its doorstep, yet is still a place where people enjoy the advantages of neighborly living in a small town atmosphere.
Woodland Park
Located at 8465 feet above sea level on the north slope of Pikes Peak and surrounded by a million acres of Pike National Forest, the “City Above The Clouds” is an easy commute to Colorado Springs, its neighbor 18 miles to the east. Woodland Park was established as a resort town and business center for Teller County. Tourism continues to fuel the economy, often turning first-time visitors into lifelong residents - for who can resist this small town of charm and friendliness set amidst the splendor of the Rampart Range thick with pines and aspen and beneath clear blue skies? Woodland Park is the perfect mountain hideaway.
